SEASONS’ GREETINGS FROM AMBASSADOR LT GEN (RTD.) JOSEPH HENRY SMITH

On behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, my family and the entire staff of the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, D.C., I extend heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all Ghanaians in the diaspora and friends of Ghana as we celebrate Christmas and the coming New Year.

This is the time of the year when sharing and giving, not only of gifts and material things, but more importantly, of one's heart and self, become even more significant.  I thank all Ghanaians as well as our readers for your support, encouragement and collaboration this year.

As we celebrate this season of peace, hope and new beginnings, we give thanks to God for how far He has brought our nation, through all the challenges we have gone through.  I am confident that 2015 will be a good year and Ghana will continue to enjoy peace, freedom, stability and prosperity.

The Government of President Mahama will continue to turn the economy around and also resolve the many challenges that confront us, particularly the energy crisis.  I am confident that our dear country will emerge from these challenges stronger than ever and secure a much better and brighter future that our people truly deserve.

We will take great strides to reach unprecedented heights in the political, security, economic and social front, amidst the global challenges and turmoil.

I wish to remind you of the importance the Government attaches to our cherished Ghanaians in the diaspora, especially your contributions to the national economy.  As you already know, a Diaspora Affairs Bureau (DAB) has been created in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration (MFA&RI) with the sole aim of enhancing the Government’s ability to address the diaspora concerns and grievances in a proactive and effective manner, and also engage the Ghanaian diaspora in national development.

In pursuant of this, the Embassy has set up a Diaspora Desk and we look forward to forging closer friendship and mutually beneficial partnerships with all of you.

It has been an honour and a pleasure working with you in the promotion of our country. We renew our commitment to continue our ever growing collaboration with all parties in this drive to make Ghana a better place for future generations.

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to you all; and may the spirit of the season make you give and share as we spend time with family and friends!

MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS US ALL AND OUR HOMELAND GHANA.

“Afehyia Pa!”
