Ambassador Smith Meets Ghanaian Community In Chicago

His Excellency, Lt. Gen. Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd), Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, at a meeting with leaders of the Ghanaian Community in Chicago last Friday, July 10, 2015, emphasised the importance of the Ghanaian Diaspora and their potential in nation building.

The Ambassador who was in Chicago to familiarise himself with the Ghanaian Community, said it was because of the importance of the Diaspora in the current developmental programme of the country, that the Diaspora Affairs Bureau (DAB) was set up a Desk at the Mission to engage and monitor activities of Ghanaians in the US.

He asked the Leaders to inculcate in their members a sense of national pride and always make peace, stability, sacrifice and national security their watch word by placing the country first in everything they do.

Ghana, Ambassador Smith said, has come a long way in her journey towards democracy and good governance, having gone through six elections since 1992 adding “we should all be proud of our country for our achievement of peace and stability in the country”.

He asked the Community to see the Mission as their own home and feel free to visit anytime and make use of facilities there like the Library to read the Ghanaian newspapers.

Mr. Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah, President of the Ghana National Council of Chicago Metropolitan area, thanked Ambassador Smith for making time to visit Chicago to inquire about their welfare and promised the Community’s cooperation in the work of the Mission.
