Marine fire unit to be set up
Mr. Albert Brown Gaisie, acting Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), says plans are underway to set up a marine fire unit to team up with the Ghana Navy, to fight possible occurrence of fire in the country’s oil field.
He adds that, in line with the GNFS’ capacity development strategy, studies were to be conducted to ascertain the potential threats and levels of risk so as to respond adequately.
Mr. Gaisie made this known in Tema, during a familiarisation visit to the Tema Regional Command, stating that a team of experts from London is expected in the country next month, to train personnel in the area of oil and gas supply management.
He mentioned that the service plans to train volunteers in the coastal areas near the oil source to assist in emergencies, and also advised personnel to make discipline and hardworking.
