Takoradi gets biometric passport centre


Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has inaugurated a Biometric Passport Application Centre at Takoradi to facilitate the process of acquiring the new modified biometric passport by the people in the Western Region.

He said in a speech read on his behalf, that the centre is a major step towards the full implementation of the new biometric passport system which was launched on March 23, 2010.

 Alhaji Mumuni said the introduction of the biometric passport is to improve the security and integrity of the Ghanaian passport regime, reduce identity theft and the activities of middle-men.

 He noted that, prospective applicants could purchase passport forms at all commercial banks, complete them and submit to the centre, which is located in the regional office of the Ghana Immigration Service, for processing.
