GWCL to expand Daboase Water Project


Mr. Daniel G. Muomaalah, the Western Regional Manager of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), says the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese Company, to expand the Daboase Water Supply System in the Wassa Mpohor East District of the Western Region.

According to him, technical proposals of the project, which is designed to produce an additional 22 million gallons of water daily, are being compiled by the Chinese company for the attention of GWCL and pointed out that the MoU includes the renewal and replacement of pumps and equipment at the Inchaban water supply system in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis.

 Mr. Muomaalah disclosed this in Takoradi, at a press briefing on the water supply situation in the Sekondi/Takoradi and the region in general, adding that currently the Daboase water supply treatment plant produces six million gallons of water daily.

 He said government is also pursuing a programme, to build a new water treatment plant at Essiama in the Ellembelle District, for the production of an additional 20 million gallons of water daily to serve the enclave including Elubo, Dixcove, Princess Town, Jaway Wharf, Nkroful and Half Assini.

 Mr. Muomaalah further added that, the Tarkwa and Axim treatment plants will also be rehabilitated and expanded to meet current demands.
