US praises Ghana
Mr. James B. Steinberg, the US Deputy Secretary of State, has praised Ghana’s leadership style and described the country as a stronghold of rule of law and democracy.
He has also lauded the country’s ‘Better Ghana Agenda’, which focuses on human resource and infrastructural development, saying the US is privileged to be part of Ghana’s success story.
Mr. Steinberg made this known at the Castle, Osu, when he led a delegation to call on President John Evans Atta Mills, stressing, “we want to see how we can build the future and enhance peace and democracy on the continent and also think about how we can work together.”
He used the occasion to announce that Ghana, can now access the second tranche of the $550 million package-Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), signed in 2006 to reduce poverty in the country.
President Mills, on his part, thanked the US government for considering Ghana for the MCA and gave an assurance that the money will be used judiciously.
