Govt to expand Radiotherapy facilities at K’bu.

Mr. Joseph Yieleh Chireh, the Minster of Health, says government has secured a $13.5 million loan from Badea and Ofid, an Arab firm to expand the radiotherapy facilities at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He adds that the project will include strengthening the hospital’s capacity in the prevention and early detection of cancer-related diseases.

Mr. Yieleh Chireh disclosed this in Accra, in a speech read on his behalf at the launch of this year’s World Cancer Day, on the theme, ‘Cancer Can Be Prevented, Let Us All Get Involved’.

He stressed that, there is the need to continue educating the public on early warning signs of various cancers in order that they can report early to health facilities, pointing out that 40 percent of cancers are preventable through healthy living and vaccination.

Mr. Yieleh Chireh noted that government will soon present the Tobacco and Public Health Bill to Parliament for approval.
