Ghana to host International Cricket Tournament

The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) has inaugurated a seven-member Local Organising Committee (LOC), to plan Ghana’s hosting of this year’s International Cricket Division 3 Tournament scheduled for February 23 to 28, 2011 at the Achimota Oval.

The tournament, under the auspices of the ICC, Africa Cricket Association (ACA) and the National Sports Council (NSC), will bring together seven counties to compete for qualification to zone 2 and also promote the sport in Ghana and the continent in general.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony in Accra, Hon. Nii Nortey Dua, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, commended members of the committee for availing themselves for national service and also assured them of government’s commitment to stage one of the best tournaments in the history of cricket in Ghana.

He also reiterated government’s commitment to regularizing Ghana’s membership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has already laid a new Sports Regulation 2011 Bill before Parliament to speed up the process.
