More funds for Bui project

Dr. Kwabena Duffour, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, says government will secure an additional $167 million from the Chinese government to support the Bui Hydro Electric Project.

According to him, the amount is a top up on the initial $562 million received so far for the project.

Dr. Duffour made this known at the Castle, Osu, when a Chinese trade delegation, led by Mr. Chen Deming, the Commerce Minister, called on President John Evans Atta Mills.

He lauded China for her continued support to Ghana, particularly the $7.2 million support for the ultra-modern hospital at Teshie and the Ministry of Defence projects, as well as the $3 billion deal struck with President Mills when he visited China last year.

Ms. Hannah Tetteh, the Minister of Trade and Industry, on her part, said bilateral relations between the two countries has placed Ghana in a better position to address her development agenda, pointing out that over the last 10 years, Ghana has witnessed significant foreign investment of more than $100 million from China as economic support.
