MOWAC to tackle gender equality issues

Ms. Hanna Tetteh, the Minister of Trade and Industry, has launched a GH¢1,316,800 re-engineering action plan on behalf of the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWAC), to enable it tackle issues on gender equality and women’s right more effectively.

The three-year institutional restructuring plan aims at ensuring that MOWAC delivers on its mandate to effectively and efficiently promote gender equality and the rights of women and children.

Ms. Tetteh said in Accra, during the launch of the project, which is on the theme, ‘Enhancing Gender Equality and The Rights of Women and Children,’ that the new action plan which will run from 2011 to 2013, has become necessary after the ministry performed an institutional assessment of its performance from 2001 to 2009.

She pointed out that some of the issues to be tackled within the three-year period are to sharpen the vision, mission and mandate of MOWAC, build the capacity of management staff and some key stakeholders, among others.
