K’Bu hospital earmarks $71million for projects


Professor Nii Otu Nartey, the Chief Executive Officer of Korle-bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), says government has secured funding for the first phase of the Emergency Centre estimated at $60 million.

According to him, a new Eye Centre for the training of specialists from West Africa, also estimated at $3.5 million will begin later, this year and added that in all KBTH has earmarked $71 million for the construction of new projects including the new Emergency Center, the Lions International Eye Centre, expansion and re-equipment of the National Radiotherapy Centre and the redesign of the Central Out-Patient Department (OPD).

 Professor Nartey disclosed this in Accra, at the hospital’s annual performance review meeting, saying the Surgical Emergency Unit will be relocated to the OPD to create more space for both healthcare workers and patients.
