Additional power from Bui


Mr. Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, the Chief Executive Officer of Bui Power Authority, has announced that the Bui Hydro-electric Project will be ready to provide additional power to the national grid by next year.

According to him, the dam which is expected to be completed in June is about 66 percent done and also stated that the maximum dam height is expected to be 185 metres above sea level, which will later to be fitted with three generators to produce 400 megawatts that will be linked to the national grid.

 Mr. Amissah-Arthur disclosed this when Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Deputy Minister of Information and Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Deputy Minister of Energy and some journalists  toured the project site, pointing out that next year, part of the power generation will be operating, ahead of the completion of the whole project by 2013.

 The Bui Hydro Electric Project is funded with a concessional loan of $263.5 million, and a buyer’s credit of $295.5 from the government of the People’s Republic of China and EXIM Bank respectively with a contribution of $60 million from Government of Ghana.
