Centre for disease control to be built
Mr. Donald Teitelbaum, the US Ambassador to Ghana, has announced that the United States in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) will establish a Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in Ghana.
According to him a strengthened research institution like the CDC could help focus on disease control, explaining further that, CDC will provide information to enhance health programmes and policies in US.
Mr. Teitelbaum made this announcement in Accra, when he paid a courtesy call on Mr. Joseph Yieleh Chireh, the Minister of Health, commending Ghana for its efforts at reducing maternal and child mortality by 20 percent.
He added that the US will continue to support Ghana’s health sector towards attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
Mr. Chireh also said the government will increase the number of Community Based Health Planning Service (CHPS) compounds in addition to the deployment of more communities to ensure that Ghana meet the demands of the MDGs 4 and 5.
He further mentioned that as part of measures to promote health care delivery in the northern part of the country, the ministry will establish research laboratories in the north to increase disease control.
