Western corridor road to be reconstructed
Mr. Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highway, has announced that Government has released $320 million for the reconstruction of a road network in the Western Region, under the Western corridor road network project.
According to him, the roads cover the 86 kilometre Juaboso-Bodi-Akontombra-Juaboso road and the 81-kilometre Enchi-Dadieso-Juaboso-Wiawso road network.
Mr. Gidisu, made this announcement in the Western Region, at a mini-durbar held by the chiefs and people of the area as part of President Mills’ three-day tour of the Region.
He explained that government has also secured a €34 million Facility including a grant element of €12 million from the Dutch government to start work on the Benkyema Junction-Adjoa Fuah road network.
Mr. Gidisu further added that procurement processes are currently being undertaken on the project after which work will commence.
He stated that COCOBOD has made presented to the government, $200 million for its cocoa roads rehabilitation project in view of the fact that western Region is considered to be the heart beat of the nation’s cocoa industry.
President Mills on his part assured the people that upgrading of roads in the region are a top priority of government and said construction works will soon commence.
