New company takes over from AVRL

Hon. Alban Bagbin, the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, has announced that government has established the Ghana Urban Water Limited (GUWL), to manage urban water systems in the country.

He says that the new company will take over from Aqua Vitens Rand Limited (AVRL) following the expiry of their management contract.

Mr. Bagbin made the announcement in Accra, at a ceremony to hand over the management of urban water systems to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), saying Cabinet has already approved the process.

He urged the staff and management of GWCL to consider the take-over as a turning point and perform to the expectation of Ghanaians, by ensuring that the challenges in the provision of urban water could be surmounted.

He appealed to all stakeholders, including consumers, to be sensitive to the infrastructure that has been put in place to enable the GWCL supply water to all households.
