1,300 hectares of valley rice to be cultivated


Mr. Thomas Ayamga, the Upper East Regional Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), has announced that, MoFA under a French government-funded five-year Rice Sector Support Project (RSSP), will cultivate 1,300 hectares of valleys to  improve rice production in four districts in the Upper East Region.

According to him, the RSSP is an initiative of MoFA to increase the production, processing and marketing of rice, with an objective to boost the livelihoods of farmers in the targeted districts, as well as reduce the country’s rice import bill.

Mr. Ayamga disclosed this at Pusu-Namongo at the launching of a capacity-building workshop for stakeholders under the RSSP, pointing out that 29 valleys have so far been identified in the districts and is currently under study by the University for Development Studies (UDS).

The beneficiary districts are Garu-Tempane, Kassena-Nankana East, Builsa and the Bolgantanga Municipality.
