$100 million for Eastern Corridor road project

President John Evans Atta Mills has directed the release US$100 million for the commencement of work on the Asikuma-Hohoe road in the Volta Region.

According to Hon. Joe Gidisu, the Minister for Roads and Highways, there will be an additional $250 million facility from Brazil for the construction of the 42 kilometer-road from Damongo through Yendi to Watuga.

Hon. Gidisu made this known in Accra, explaining that this directive came as a result of government’s commitment and determination to ensure the early take off of the Eastern Corridor project.

He revealed that procurement procedures are underway for the award of the contract for the construction of the road from Dodopepesu to Nkwanta under the European Union facility.

Hon. Gidisu  noted that the construction of the Eastern Corridor Road and other roads have been packaged to be carried out under the Exim Bank loan facility, which is currently in its final stage of consideration.
