Government releases funds to Electoral Commission
Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (MoFEP), has announced that government has released GH¢50 million to the Electoral Commission (EC), for the biometric registration of voters for the 2012 general election.
He explains that the amount represents 67.5 percent of the total budget of GH¢80 million required for the exercise, which takes off this year.
Dr. Duffuor disclosed this in Accra, when he presented a supplementary budget on behalf of government to Parliament.
He therefore moved a motion for the House for approval of the supplementary estimates for the 2011 fiscal year, stating that based on the budget submitted by the EC, over GH¢80 million will be needed for the biometric exercise for the 2012 electoral process.
Dr. Duffuor also mentioned that Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) Board, has since its inauguration in December 2010, developed a comprehensive long-term development strategy and work plan.
