4,000 Phones for Emergency use
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Communications (MoC), has announced that government will acquire some 4,000 specialized cell phones for emergency response purposes before the end of the year.
According to him the phones will be distributed to personnel of organizations such as The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Ambulance Service, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Hon. Iddrisu said this at Biriwa in the Central Region when he inaugurated of a national ‘School Connectivity Project’, pointing out that the project has provided an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) center for all the 37 national vocational training institutes in the country.
He said that the project which is worth GH¢75,000 is being funded by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC),adding that each center is equipped with computers, a projector, uninterrupted power systems (UPS), printers and scanners and has internet connection.
GIFEC was established in 2004 as the implementing agency of the Ministry of Communications, to facilitate the speed of ICT use in the rural Ghana, promote research and the reading culture, train rural school children and teachers in the use of ICT and empower rural communities.
