$175M voted for Capacity Support Project

 Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, says government has earmarked US$175 million for the implementation of the World Bank Local Government Capacity Support Project in Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies in the country.

He explains that the project is to support the on-going Urban Environmental Sanitation Project II, Urban Management Land Information System, Urban Poverty Reduction Project, Participatory Slum Upgrading Programme and Land, Services and Citizenship for the urban folks.

Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo disclosed this in Accra at 11th induction ceremony of 20 newly registered architects, saying an additional €40 million concessionary loan has also been contracted by the ministry in collaboration with French Development Agency (AFD) to support the National Urban Policy.

 He noted further that the Ghana Urban Management Pilot Project (GUMPP) has already been initiated in four cities, comprising Kumasi, Tamale, Sekondi-Takorandi and Ho.

The Minister gave the assurance that the project will be replicated in other cities and towns, and therefore, called on all architects and other professionals to collaborate with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and other stakeholders to plan and manage the towns and cities effectively.
