Ghana to support Ivorian refugees
H.E Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, the President of Ghana, has assured the Ivorian Refugees in the country of government’s commitment to ensure their safety and security.
According to him, refugees like all citizens will be protected until mechanisms are put in place by the two countries, for their smooth return home.
Prof. Mills gave the assurance in Accra, when a delegation from the Association of Ivorian Refugees led by Mr. Benotte Kamena Brow, the President of the association.
He said as a president of a sovereign state, he it is duty to take care of his citizens and others in this country for various reasons.
President Mill however said that, in spite of the comfort and peace they are enjoying here in Ghana “there is no place like home”, and praised members of the Association for ensuring strict compliance with the country’s laws.
Mr. Brown on his part, said that the association will collaborate with the government to ensure the safety of its members and also contribute to the peace process back in Cote d’ Ivoire, to facilitate the returns of the people.
He also pledged to ensure that the members of the refugee’s community respected the laws of the country and thanked the President for the support.
