President Mills Meets Road Contractors
President John Evans Atta Mills has received progress reports from contractors on major road projects in the country at the Castle, Osu.
The delegation which was led by the Minister of Roads and Highways Mr. Joe Gidisu and the Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Dufour was made up of representatives from four companies.
The companies include China International Water and Electricity Corp. contractros working on the Madina – Pantang dual carriage road, China Geo Engineering Corporation working on the Sofoline interchange, China Railway Wusu Gray Corp. also working on the Achimota - Ofankor road and the Apedwa to Nsawam by-pass.
The representative of Sonitra, Mr. Kalfa Jean Claude said the Tetteh Quarshie – Madina road will be completed in 12 months time.
The company representatives assured President Mills of their commitment to ensuring that the projects on completed on scheduled.
They revealed the completion dates as follows:
Tetteh Quarshie – Madina: 12 months later.
Achimota – Ofankor (81.8% Completed): 15th May, 2012
Apedwa – Nsawam Bypass (97% Completed): 12th March, 2012
Sofoline Interchange (56.23% Completed): 2012
Madina – Pantang (95% Compeleted): November, 2012
Minister of Finance and Economic planning Dr. Kwabena Duffour, revealed that government has released GHC 66 million for the competition of these major road projects.
He said the GHC 300 million bonds which were raised from the market for these purpose. He was quick to also add that, the bonds were oversubscribed by GHC 48 million.
President Mills in a response, expressed worry about the inconvenience motorist go through on daily basis on this road. He said, it is about time we do whatever it takes to complete the projects.
He added that, the completion of this project will bring a great relief to motorist and offer an aesthetic value to the landscape.
President Mills noted that, he will be paying the contractors some surprised visits in due course.
