GETFund supports math, science students
Mr. Kwajo Tawiah Likpalimor, a Minister of State at the office of the President, has disclosed that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has released GH¢4 million, under the Mathematics, Science and Technology Scholarship (MASTESS) to take care of 3,543 beneficiaries this academic year.
According to him, the scholarship which has been redesigned with focus on Mathematics, Science and Technology, aims at the revamping interest and enrollment in those areas at both the Tertiary and Pre-tertiary levels.
Mr. Likpalimor made this known in Accra, when he responded to questions on the floor of Parliament, adding that MASTESS will also target needy students who are prepared to pursue those courses.
He noted that for this year, the tertiary level has 60 percent whilst the pre-tertiary level has been allocated 40 percent of the money.
Mr. Likpalimor further gave the breakdown, saying “the universities were given 33 percent, polytechnics 26.5 percent, Senior High School, 12 percent and technical and vocational, 28 percent”.
