Housing project in 3 Northern Regions
H.E John Dramani Mahama, the Vice-President has cut sod for the commencement of work, on an affordable housing scheme in the Northern, Upper West and Upper East Regions.
He said a new technology that uses local Materials, such as Mud Bricks, will be used in building the houses.
The Vice-President disclosed this at Malzeri, in the Yendi District, when he launched the project, pointing out that the housing scheme aims at improving the housing structures and reduce the housing deficit in the three regions of the north.
According to him, the project was initiated by the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
He pointed out that the housing scheme is one of the early projects of SADA and indicated that more projects that will improve the living standards of the people in the Savannah ecological area will come on board.
He therefore urged local the authorities to consider using the new technology to build schools, teachers bungalows and nurses quarters.
The beneficiary communities are Malzeri in the Northern Region, Wechiu in the Upper West Region and Paga in the Upper East Region.
The UNDP is supporting the project with $500,000, whilst SADA will commit GH¢2.8 million.
