Free extra classes for Northern basic schools


Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu, the Sector Minister has announced that basic schools in the three Northern Regions will receive free extra teaching from the next academic year.  The full cost of the tuition and allowances for teachers are being borne by the Ministry of Education.

 

She said as part of the package to improve the teaching of information and communication technology (ICT) in schools, 15,000 laptops has been dispatched to the three northern regions.

Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisum made this known at the Castle, Osu in Accra at the third President’s Christmas Party for selected school children.

The Minister revealed that moves are also underway to make available to special schools, special software to improve teaching and learning in those institutions adding that the programme which will be extended to all basic schools, will help improve the academic performance of children throughout the country.

According to him, government has chalked up significant gains, particularly on the educational front and cited the free textbooks for schoolchildren, the School Feeding Programme, free uniforms, among others are some initiatives to improve the educational standards in the country.
