Potable water for Pro Poor


Madam Augustina Nana Yaa Jantuah, the Director of Public Affairs of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), in collaboration with the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), has embarked on a move to sink boreholes and extend potable water to deprived areas throughout the country.

She said under the pilot project, the PURC inaugurated seven standpipes at Glefe near Dansoman and eight 1,000-litre storage tanks at Teshie and in some areas at Nima in Accra.

Madam Jantuah made this known in Accra after some members of the commission has visited the Pro Poor Water Project sites.

He said, the programme follows the successful execution of a pilot project which is a collaborative effort among the PURC, the GWCL, and Water Aid, an international non-governmental organization (NGO).

Alhaji Abu Gariba, the Board Chairman of the Nima Water and Sanitation Development, commended the PURC for the initiative and support and said since the facility was put in place, it has improve the water situation there.
