527 youth receive training under LESDEP in Upper East
Mr. Robert Agaab, Upper East Regional Co-ordninator of the Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) says the programme has provided training for 527 youths in the Upper East Region in various trade vocations to make them self-employable.
He said 115 were trained in mobile phone repairs, 128 in beauty care services, 126 in hair dressing, 45 catering services, 45 in barbering and 48 in rural transport service.
Mr. Agaab said, the training programme, which was being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, is designed to equip the youth with self-employable skills.
According to the co-ordinator, the programme to a large extent will ensure that the youth stay in the rural areas to practice their vocation.
Mr. Edward Ayagle, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, also pointed out that the government could not employ every one into the formal sector that was why it initiates the LESDEP under the National Youth Employment Programme.
He, therefore, commended the beneficiaries for taking advantage of the training modules to better their lot.
