Obama Lauds Ghana`s Democracy


President Barack Obama welcomed His Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills and his delegation to the White house in Washington DC. The two discussed a range of economic and commercial issues that binds the two countries.

In his welcome remarks, Obama cited Ghana as a “good news story” in Africa and noted that Ghana has become a model of democracy. He praised the government for maintaining strong institutions of state, initiative, governance and Ghana’s current economic achievements.

On his part, President Atta Mills expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the President Obama for choosing Ghana as the first African country to visit and stressed that it did not only encourage but strengthened the bond between the two countries.  President Mills emphasized Ghana’s commitment to democracy and pledged that peace would be maintained during Ghana`s upcoming 2012 elections.

In an official ceremony earlier in the day, President Mills laid a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier at the Arlington Cemetery.
