Seaborne Trade increases to about 22% averagely
Sea transportation has seen an average increase of about 22 percent per year.
In the year 2010, sea transportation was thirteen million, nine hundred and seventy six thousand, four hundred and thirty nine tones.
However in 2011 the trade rose to seventeen million, nine hundred and eighty five thousand, eight hundred and ten tones.
Chief Executive of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, Dr. Kofi Mbiah made this known at the 6th National Shippers’ Day Celebration in Accra under the theme “Enhancing Shipping Competence: Removing the Obstacles”.
Dr. Mbiah told Gold Business Report cargo throughput has increased by 20 percent.
This according to him calls for the expansion of infrastructure at the various ports in the country to meet the increasing demands in the sea transportation industry.
